Nigeria imports N45bn fishery products from Norway yearly

The Norwegian ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Kjemprudence Jens-Petter, says that Nigeria imports fishery products worth $ 125 million annually ($ 45 billion) from his country.

Jens-Petter said in Lagos Monday that Norwegian fishery imports included dried fish, mackerel and salmon.
"Norwegian fish exports to Nigeria amount to $ 125 million annually, including dried fish, pelagic fish, mainly mackerel and salmon.
"We are interested in expanding our market access and considering that the premium salmon market has more potential.
"Ideally, we believe it would be possible to double our exports considering the huge Nigerian market and the current recovery of the Nigerian economy," he said.
He said that the Nigerian-Norwegian Chamber of Commerce was working with his embassy to attract Norwegian investment and cooperation for the development of the Nigerian fishing industry.
The Norwegian envoy said that his local government, through its organization, Innovation Norway, was prepared to support and share technical expertise with Nigerian fishing companies to boost local fish production.
He said that the Norwegian government was also interested in the development and export of Nigerian seafood products to Norway.Jens-Petter said that NNCC and Norwegian fish exporting companies and exporters have exchanged visits on how Nigeria could also achieve excellent fish production locally.
