FG approves sale of 3 integrated power plants
The federal government has granted approval for Niger Delta Power
Holding Company, NDPHC, to sell three power plants to private investors.
The three plants that formed part of the National Integrated Energy Project, NIPP, include the 634-megawatt Calabar plant; 1,076MW, the Alaoji combined cycle plant and the 506MW Geregu plant. NDPHC
Managing Director, Chiedu Ugbo, reported this at the 20th Energy Sector
Monthly Meeting hosted by Enugu Electricity Distribution Company, EEDC,
at the Z05 Injection Substation in Owerri, Imo State. In his presentation by Vanguard, Ugbo stated that the problems that stalled sales in the past had been solved. Ugbo
indicated that the preferred bidders for the plants were still very
interested in them, against the thought that they might have lost
interest. "This
process of privatization began in 2012 and was moved to 2013 with the
appearance of preferred bidders. At that time it was a mixture of market
problems and internal problems that had to do with gas supply, the
completion of power plants and evacuation. "NIPP is mandated to build and sell. It is a project company so the sale will affect the 10 power plants ultimately. "
