NANS gives Buhari 7days to sack heads of ministries, commissions involved
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has called for
the immediate suspension of suspected complicity in the reinstatement of
Mr. Abdulrasheed Maina, the former Head of the Pension Task Team, to
the civil service.
NANS President Chinonso Obasi said in a statement Sunday in Abuja that such action would ensure a credible investigation of all alleged parties to the scandal. Maina had been suspected of allegations of misappropriation of 100 billion N in the administration of pension funds while presiding over the Presidential Task Force on Pension Reforms. According to Obasi, the revelations emanating from government circles, particularly regarding violations of service rules, insubordination, accusations and accusations are embarrassing. He said that President Muhammadu Buhari was elected to cleanse Nigeria of corruption and impunity; therefore, a case of such magnitude should be taken seriously. "A recent revelation was made of how Maina was smuggled back into civil service after nearly five years of abstention." Maina's elevation from Deputy Director to Director at the Ministry of Interior with evidence of official exchange of correspondence between many government officials is no more than an attempt to ridicule the public image and psyche of Nigerians and the civil service system. "As defenders of a free and healthy and corrupt Nigeria, we dare to ask President Muhammadu Buhari to quickly suspend all the heads of commission, additional ministerial departments and ministries involved in this bitter saga." The president of NANS said that it was imperative for Buhari to release his administration from those who were mocking their commitment to fight against corruption. He said that police and anti-graft agencies should do everything possible to have Maina respond to the accusations and shed light on how and why she returned to the public service from which she escaped more than four years ago. "We insist that the same measures taken by the presidency in cases involving the suspended Secretary of the Federation Government and the Director General of the National Intelligence Agency are sent to all those involved in the Mainagate." This case must be diligently researched and processed and the report should not be swept under the carpet. "To this end, we issue a 7-day ultimatum to the Federal Government to act and do so with the greatest sense of sincerity, regardless of those involved and their closeness to the corridor of power," he said. Obasi said that if no action was taken at the expiration of the ultimatum, Nigerian students would have no choice but to organize a mass action at the national level.
