Facebook's Social ID App Hello Is Pretty Much

Facebook seems to have given up on Hello, a Truecaller-like social identification application that began testing publicly in select markets two years ago, as Android and iOS introduce similar built-in features for their customers.
Available exclusively on Android, Facebook's Hello & Caller ID & Blocking application used the social network graph to display information about the person a Hello user was trying to call or receive a call. In addition, the application, which also served as the default call application on Android, could also be used to block users.
Facebook's Social ID App Hello Is Pretty Much Dead
At the time of the initial release, Hola was only available in three markets: the United States, Nigeria and Brazil. The company had noted that it intends to bring the social identification application to more places. But two years later, the company not only extends the reach of the Hello application to more geographies, it has not even released software updates to solve problems with the application.
The Google Play ad for the Hello app is full of negative reviews from users, but the company, which updates its Facebook Messenger application and dials once or twice a week on Android and iOS, has not pressed any updates to Hello in two years. A spokeswoman for Facebook did not comment on this story. According to the analytic application App Annie, the Hello application has been downloaded more than 500,000 times in Google Play around the world.
"It has not been updated in almost 2 years so I guess it's basically abandoned," one user wrote earlier this year. "I configured it as the default marker on my [Samsung Galaxy] S7, but it is not recognized and incoming calls use my stock marker," the user added. "Good idea, failure to execute It's supposed to block spam calls, the odd case is you get multiple notifications." This is a joke. I tried my phone number from the neighborhood public library and I did not find it. The number in the Google search box and showed me the information of that number on the first link, "added a different user.
The company began to publicly test Hello in April 2015. At that time, Product Manager Andrea Vaccari said the application could solve a major problem. "More than 1 billion phone calls are made in the United States every day The experience of the phone call has not evolved in a long time." According to Vaccari profile on LinkedIn, she is now working on Messenger.
As Facebook abandons the application, its popularity is also falling. "In the United States, Hello has been downloaded from Google Play nearly 327,000 times since its launch in 2015. In Nigeria, Hello has approximately 20,000 Google Play downloads since 2016," said Ruika Lin, a mobile ideas strategist at the analytics firm Sensor Tower, said to Gadgets 360.
In recent quarters, with little push from Facebook, the application is seeing a decrease in the number of downloads. "So in the US, the app experienced an initial increase in downloads within the first week or so after it was extended on April 22, 2015. Then the downloads were pretty flat for about a month And a half, and had a second increase in late June 2015, which lasted a little over a week until early July. Since early July 2015, the installation has been virtually flat and minimal, "added Lin Lin sensor .
"In Brazil, the initial wave of discharges lasted for about a week, and daily discharges have been flat and minimal since early May 2015. Daily discharges in Nigeria since early 2016 have also been flat and minimal. Year, Hello application downloads have been fairly flat for the three countries, not showing significant fluctuations. "
It is not clear why Facebook gave up Hello, as several people found the app useful, going through their comments. Maybe it's because users no longer need this app. Google introduced a similar feature on Android in 2016, and with iOS 10, Apple also opened CallKit, allowing applications like Truecaller, which has more than 200 million active users and sees more than three billion searches, dialer access
