A federal court sitting in Lagos high on Friday sentenced a former director general of the Maritime Safety 
Agency of Nigeria Administration, Mr. Raymond Temisan Omatseye, to five years in prison more than a 
scam N1.5bn contract. Ex-NIMASA DG, Omatseye Omatseye was brought before the court on charges of 27 counts bounds near the variation alleged contract bid-rigging and the award of contracts above his approval limit. At the hearing session of the issue on Monday, March 14, the prosecution counsel, Godwin Obla, SAN, and defense attorney, E. D Onyeke made their final addresses and adopted before the court. Onyeke presented and served the cutting and processing of written and approved address. He urged the court to dismiss the case against the former head NIMASA on the basis that the prosecution has failed to prove its case beyond reasonable doubt. OBLA also adopted his written address and expressed confidence that the burden of 27 charges against the accused has been proved beyond reasonable doubt and prayed the court to find the accused guilty of all charges. According to the OBLA 25 counts of the charges against Omatseye they lived in approving the contract above the threshold level and the other two charges treated with bid rigging. He also said that, contrary to existing regulations, contract was awarded to a company that submitted the best offer and even pre-qualified for the contract.
