Wizkid defeats Davido and wins the AFRIMA 2017 prize
Wizkid,
son of Star King, defeated his arch-rival Davido, to become the best
African male artist in the All African Music Award 2017 (AFRIMA) held in
Lagos on Sunday. Wizkid's
award includes, Artiste of the Year, for his song "Come Closer", Song
of the Year for the same song and Best Male Artist in West Africa.
This victory has once again renewed the battle of supremacy between the two popular artists and will arrive shortly after Davido overtook Wizkid at the 2017 MTV EMA by winning the "Best African Act". Wizkid gained uncommon international recognition in 2016 after he had a collaborative effort with American international Drake with his collaborative song "One Dance", which was sold in 15 countries, including the USA. United States, United Kingdom, Canada and Australia. Earlier this year, Wizkid became the first Afrobeat artist to appear on the Guinness World Records of 2018 for his contribution to Drake's hit song "One Dance." In his acceptance speech, the Ojuelegba singer thanked 2baba and DJ Jimmy Jatt for their contributions to the African musical landscape. Wizkid, born on July 16, 1990, singer and soloist, began his foray into music at the tender age of 11 with his band "Glorious Five", a group formed by a choir of the church. However, he took the world of music by storm with his all-time success "Holla at your Boy" in 2010 and another successful "Ayo" in 2014.
