Buhari arrives New York for UN General Assembly

New York - President Muhammadu Buhari has arrived in New York to join other world leaders during the 72nd session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on Tuesday.
The President was accompanied by the Governors. Abdul'aziz Yari, David Umahi and Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN) of Zamfara, Ebonyi and Ondo respectively.

He was received at JF Kennedy Airport by Foreign Minister Geoffrey Onyeama and the Permanent Representative of Nigeria to the UN, Prof. Tijjani Bande. Subsequently, the president was received at 8:30 p.m. in its shelter by Kayode Fayemi Ministries of Solid Minerals, Education, Adamu Adamu, and the counterpart of Industry, Trade and Investment, Okechukwu Enelamah. The president will also join other world leaders at the welcoming reception of UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and hold a bilateral meeting with the UN chief. In addition to other high-level commitments, he will hold a lunch meeting with US President Donald Trump along with other world leaders. Nigeria will also participate in high-level meetings on "Preventing Sexual Exploitation and Abuse: A Momentum for Change", the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, a high-level event organized by the AU under the theme of the Year : Dividend: From Commitment to Action ", among others The president and members of his delegation are expected to project Nigeria as a strong moral force and a responsible member of the international community, as well as reaffirm Nigeria's commitment to peace , global security and development, with the need for increased international cooperation in the fight against corruption. Other priorities for the Nigerian delegation at the 72nd UN General Assembly include the strengthening of human rights institutions, the state of support for IDPs stemming from Boko Haram's activities and recent floods and mitigation of climate change. The Nigerian delegation is also expected to seek support from UN member states for the efforts of the Buhari administration to combat illicit financial flows in order to promote sustainable development.
